Hi, just got a P4-2.8E cpu

trying to install it to the motherboard...
and after i installed the cpu onto the board, i am now wondering do i have to insert thermal compound before putting the HSF on top of the cpu.

I see the retail HSF does have a little pad sticked onto it, but i don't know if it is the thermal pad or what... or should i remove it and put my own thermal compound? it is a Ceramique Arctic Silver paste.

thanks

No u won't need to apply your own compound. You can, but it won't do much for a stock cooler anyway. Unless it's one of them newer stock HSFs with a copper base, then it might make a tiny difference. For a prescott, it's probably better to consider getting an aftermarket cooler.

TIM pad. Thermal Interface Material.

It's fine if you aren't overclocking.

If you are overclocking then you know what to do. :D
