Installing the NVSilencer 5 on a EVGA 6800GT

Yeah. But I did read in the instructions for mine to put a LOT of AS5 one. Have you seen how much the company put on the stock heatsinks. Man!! I'll try to get a pic or something
 
I put about the same on. It runs at 53c normal, and around 60c under a full load. That's overclocked to 430x1200. So I'm more than happy with it.
 
Glad to see this step-by-step, thanks for the link. I've been thinking of getting the NVSilencer5 for my PNY 6800GT, and the PNY cards have the same type of cooling unit the eVGA's have, except with different graphics.

SagerNut, did you notice any ability to overclock higher with the new cooling in place?
 
I have a BFG 6800NU with the nice shiny cooler with the dual fans with LEDs. Is it worth it to get a NV5 for me? I OCed it to 400/800(stable) and my temps are at 48C Normal/56C High Load. How much more OC can I expct from an NV5?
 
Well. I looked over that guide and realized that I didn't put enough AS5 on and didn't tighten the screws enough. Took it apart again and this time fixed it right. Tightened the screws down allot tighter this time and now my idle is : 59cel with load at 62cel ... got a 5328 3DMARK05 score running the 66.81 drivers and a 406MHz/1.20GHz on my eVGA 6800GT. Thanks for the link ... it helped.

I say no. BFG puts better cooling systems on their cards for a reason, and you are getting a good if not better-than-expected overclock on your 6800. I had the eVGA 6800nu for a couple of months with stock cooling, and didn't get near your speeds. Also, my card ran much hotter than yours does currently, as my ran around mid-60's at normal use, and no telling how much higher during high-load.
 
The good thing about the NV5 is blows the hot air out of the back of your case. So it drops your system temp by a few degrees also. I got MUCH better overclocking results with my 6800 after installing the NV5. I'm currently running it stable at 450/1200. So it's way above Ultra speeds.
