OK guys I am going to install slackware. I already downloaded the installation iso. I was just reading the installation help on www.slackware.com. It looks like the installation is diskette based, but not CD-ROM based. Do I have to make those disketts?

Any other slackware installation experience will be appreciated.

Slackware can be installed via Floppy (not recommended as it is WAY!!! to big), nfs, ftp, www site (similar to the ftp install) and CDROM...

If you d/l'ed the cdrom image, burn it and install it from the CD, it should be bootable... :)

The floppy thing is just a carryover from years past. Dont worry about it, and happy slacking.

yea just boot of the cdrom and go.

first up is partition your disk, use 'cfdisk' its easier.

Then type 'setup' and get rolling.

When you get it up and running, make sure you kill telnet, its got a pretty bad exploit (in addition to just being silly old telnet). I'm pretty sure its in /etc/inetd.conf

Thanks guys. Looks like I was misled by the out-dated documentation. Anyhow, I think I am going to do a harddisk based installation. Simply because I never did that before and it sounds fun.

Buddha: what is 'cdfdisk'? Is it the equivilant of 'fdisk'?
