hi. my dad recently got a new HP server and the company has given him extra memory..but dad wants me to install it because they want to charge an arm and a leg.

ive never really worked on servers before and just wandering is it just as simple as putting the memory in like normal pc's?

im pretty good with computer hardware but just wanna make 100 percent sure that im not gonna stuff anything up

cheers

Yes. It's the same. If it's not FB-DIMM, it will be the same as desktop RAM, just have an extra chip. Good old registered/buffered ECC varieties of DRAM have an extra chip or two on them (thus, "buffered," hence normal ram being called "unbuffered"), helping isolate the signal(s) (so it's less noisy with more sticks installed), and to check for certain types of errors. Aside from making sure to turn ECC on in the BIOS (you may not be able to turn it off, though), there's nothing really different to do.
