Since I'm considering the switch to a laptop.
Just wanted to know if it's possible to put a retail copy of XP on a laptop?
I guess all I would essentially need are drivers for the video card, and possibly motherboard?
Anything else that I should know of regarding this?

You could do this.

You would need the following:
Chipset driver
Video Driver (can be obtained from the manufacturer's website, or you can download modded drivers)
Audio Driver
Network Drivers

If your notebook has Fn keys or other hotkeys, you'll probably need to install the keyboard control program from the original manufacturer.
You may also want to install the manufacturer's power control software (depending on how good it was).

I don't mean to take over the OP's thread but, Are there any other programs that could be used for the Fn keys or for power control?

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure that you would need to go with the manufacturer of the notebook since each manufacturer does it differently with how their hotkeys integrate with Windows.
