Installing RAM

My friend bought some RAM for his computer but after we started the computer up it kept on giving us a "windows protection error". What could we be doing wrong?

well,

1) could be bad ram

2) might be wrong kind of ram

is this ram supplementing existing ram? or do you now only have this one new stick in there? if there IS an old and new stick, try booting with just the new stick

also, some system specs would be helpful, as well as the type of ram

Look at the specs on each of the sticks of RAM (if you can easily find some, it depends on the brand, packaging, etc). Windows errors like this usually result from the BIOS settings being to high for the actual RAM specifications. Try lowering the clock speed on your RAM in the system BIOS and making sure that both RAM types are the same (for example, both at 133 or 100 MHz)
