I have Geil Value Series 184-Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 RAM and a MSI "K8T NEO2-FIR" VIA K8T800 motherboard. The manual for the board contains more or less this information on installing the RAM. My problem is that two of the recommendations in those instructions appear to be contradictory (or maybe I'm just reading it wrong):
The board has 4 DIMM slots (1 and 2, which are green, and 3 and 4, which are purple). The "recommended memory combination list" table on that page above says that when you have two sticks of memory, you should put one stick in DIMM2 and one in DIMM4. But the "MSI reminds you" bullet point list says "Always insert the memory modules into the GREEN slots first, and it is strongly recommended not to insert the memory modules into the PURPLE slots while the GREEN slots are left empty."
I might be reading it wrong, but that seems contradictory -- how can I put my two sticks in DIMM2 and DIMM4 and also fill up the green slots (DIMM1 and DIMM2). Any ideas as what the proper configuration should be? I'm leaning towards ignoring the "MSI reminds you" bullet point list and following the "recommended memory combination list" table (i.e., putting my two sticks in DIMM2 and DIMM4).
