I just bought an ASUS M4A79XTD EVO which doesn't come with a FDD header. I didn't know this when I bought the mobo. I usually use the FD to load RAID drivers for XP.

I found this article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=916196 saying that XP can only recognize select USB floppies that will respond to the "press F6 to load mass storage drivers". I'm cool with that.

But I couldn't find any articles that refers to loading RAID drivers in VISTA using floppyless-mobos.

Has anyone loaded RAID drivers by USB drives or USB floppies in VISTA and succeeded?

Vista setup supports using USB flash/thumb drives during the install process, but XP does not. For XP, you can use NLite to integrate the RAID or AHCI drivers (text mode) into a custom install CD.

Check this guide. You can use USB thumbdrive or CD-ROM. Don't put anything else other than the RAID drivers. Quick-formatting to FAT32 and copying over the drivers will take care of it easily.

Once the drivers are loaded and the OS recognizes the volumes, make sure to unplug the USB thumbdrive before continuing the installation procedure.
