Installing Radeon after GeForce

I'm not sure if this goes into the Technical thread or this one but in any case...i've got a GeForce 3 in my machine now and just bought an ATI 9700 PRO. I wanted to know if there is anything i need to uninstall of Nvidia's stuff in order to install my ATI or can I just switch the cards in the AGP slot and let the comp do the rest. I've heard of some problems that happen when you just switch the cards.

use det destroyer here to get rid of all nvidia drivers then remove nvidia card and install the 9700 as a stadard video card reboot then install the drivers from the driver disk or updated ones from the web

If it wouldnt be too much of a hassle, I would reccomend a clean install of windows, as that is usually the safest method after a major hardware upgrade. Head over to these guy's forums and they have a whole bunch of help over there for Radeon cards.

BTW, enjoy your card, it is wicked fast!

Just one quick question, the Detonator Destoyer doesn't have support for XP supposedly. You think it's like other programs that still will work with XP, even without official support.

If there's still some iffiness, don't worry about it. I'll just do a clean install.
 
Hey Zoltek, I just installed my Sapphire 9700 Pro tonight after removing a Ti4600. After reading all the horror stories here and at rage3d I was worried that it would go badly but it's working like a champ right now. I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers from control panel, ran regedit to remove the Nvidia folder, deleted the Nvidia folder from C: and then did a complete search using nv*.* and deleted everything that came up that I was sure was related to video drivers. I downloaded the "powered by ATi" Cat 2.5's and Control Panel directly from ATi, installed the drivers then the control panel and it all worked out well. There is some really good reading over at rage3d in the forums and just about every question you could ask is answered there. Good luck!

you dont have to do much, use the uninstall for your old drivers, then search your registry and remove all references to them, pop the new one in and start your machine...
