Installing OS on Dell Latitude Lm

My friend's Dell Latitude LM needs a new OS install (WinME) I upgraded the bios, but have run into a snag. It has an Options port for a CDROM drive OR Floppy, but not both at the same time. How do you install from the cdrom drive in such a case? I pulled the hard drive thinking I'd just copy the OS to it from my computer, but the old IBM hard drive uses an old style adaptor and I don't have that style, so that idea fizzled.

I've tried copying the WinMe rescue disk to the hard drive, but the laptop won't boot to the hard drive using the WinMe rescue disk files.

The bios doesn't support CDROM booting.

Anyone know how to do this?

I see from the manual that the floppy drive can be attached to the parallel port with the proper adaptor. My friend says no such adaptor came with it. I assume this is something we could pick up at the local CompUSA?

Anyone out there today? 🙂

I has this problem with my old IBM's. I had to use a program called lap link so I could do the install over a network connection.

IAMDAVID: Well, the Notebook has no OS on it, and no DOS, so how would I install laplink on the notebook so I could transfer the OS? 🙂 Does LapLink have some minimal DOS code for that purpose to be put on the notebook?

Thanks,
Robert

Its been a while since I used it but if I remember right it boots the lappy from the floppy and loads the necessary drivers to connect to another PC. I used a token ring PCMCIA card, you can use parallel ports too. Then ya set it up over the network.. Took a very long time.
