Installing OS on a new HDD in a New System

I am putting together a system with the following components: A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard, Athlon 64-3000, Seagate SATA 200 Gig drive etc. etc.
The HDD drive is brand new, not even formated. Once I setup my Bios and boot the system with Win XP CD Rom in the Drive, will I be able to install Windows even before the Drive has been formated? If no, what is the best route to take?

Thank you.
Ken

The Windows XP installation process that runs when you boot from the XP CD will prompt you to partition and format the hard drive before it installs Windows on the computer.
