So I pop Ubuntu disc in, click install, the CD starts loading up and then its just a blank screen with a blinking cursor and then the CD rom slows down and then it idles.

What gives? This system works fine 2 days ago, I went and did a 'dodshort" in boot and nuke it got stuck at 13% so I pushed the power and tried to do it again and now this issue started happening.

I dont think one has to do with the other.

any help?

Are you able to mount the hard drive in Ubuntu? I would suggest installing gparted in the live Ubuntu session and re-formatting the HDD.

along with tynen' s suggestion , would try first booting into a live session to be sure your cd/dvd rom drive is functioning. then once you get to the desktop, there should be an icon for installing ubuntu.

do a physical check of your system as well. make sure all of your cables are in nice and tight.

good luck
