Installing OS from CD

I am about to begin a new build and understand that I may need some drivers in order to install the OS from CD. The IT guy at work said I could save the drivers on a USB flash memory pen rather than floppy and use them to accomplish this. Is this correct? Does the flash pen need to be bootable in order for this to work? Or should I just use floppy. I saw a sweet deal on a 1GB Cruzer at dell which I figured would be useful at some point.

I'd wager that the "IT guy at work" needs to be clearer. The only time you'll need drivers to do an actual install is if you need to load RAID or SATA drivers, or you're using a board where the LAN driver isn't automatically recognized (like nForce2 + WXP SP1).

I think he means "get all the drivers for post-install" - video, sound, motherboard, etc ... - and save those on a CD or flash drive to save yourself the hassle of trying to find them afterwards.

Uh, yeah. Sorry that I wasn't too clear. Meant the SATA drivers. Will a flash drive work for that purpose? And does it have to be "bootable"?
