hi, i'm taking out my old cdr-w drive and i'm putting in a dvdrw, how do i do this, ne1 got a good link? i've installed a cdrw b4 in my friends comp, but that was a tdk and it came w/ a vid so it was very easy... i'm very newb, so if somone could start me out by telling me how to uninstall my cdrw, do i go to the system and uninstall it from there and then shutdown and remove it? i'l need very detailed step by step... i have a 2.4 ghgz p4, 786 ram, and there is also a dvd drive along w/ the cdrw, the cdrw is on the bottom, i dont' know how it's configured, slave primary... whatever, i don't know much about this, so if someone could start me off w/ a good link i'd much apreciate it, and thanx for taking the time to read this....

1) go to control panel, remove hardware, then choose the CDRW (win 200 in my case)
2) shut down after its done. unplug computer or turn off power supply
3) take out the CDRW
4) look at the back of the CDRW, see how its jumper was configured. SL is slave, MA is master, and CS is cable select
5) then switch the DVDRW to the same jumper setting as the old CDRW
6) plug in DVDRW
7) turn on computer, it should now be recognized in the BIOS

so i assume the old CDRW was the slave, since it was below the DVD-rom (on the IDE cable, the termainal connector is the master)
i don't know but i think if the DVDRW is master it would be better? someone correct me if im wrong. i think maybe DVDRW is slave is better.

anyway in your case just did the above steps and you'll be fine

good luck

help! i've installed the drive ok, but nero doesn't recognize the burner, i can play dvds on it fine, but neither nero nor windows will let me burn dvd's, i'm using dvd+r media... this is a dual drive so it shoudln't matter what type o media i use, do i need to install drivers? if so, how?

Try uninstalling Nero and then reinstalling it. You don't have to install any drivers for your new DVD burner, at least I didn't for my LG GSA 4040 burner only to allow the DVD-RAM capabilities of the drive.
