Installing OpenOffice

I downloaded the file, it's in HTML format?!
anyway clicking on it gives me a page of symbols and it causes firefox to crash.

what am I doing wrong?
 
I'm not sure what you're doing. Go to this page, and click continue to download. You'll then get a installer package in your download location. Double click that and follow the prompts to install OO

For spelling. I would say it's early, but I've been up for hours now :roll:

Here's a Wiki on OO, which also mentions StarOffice, from which it's based. I've never used StarOffice, so I don't know the practical differences, but the Wiki gives a decent overview.
