Installing NT 4 on RAID

I have a server with an AMI raid controller with 4 HDs in a RAID 5 config. I want to install NT 4 on this.

I have the necessary drivers that NT needs for the raid. But after I install the drivers and proceed to the next screen, NT says there are no Hard drives connected.

I have never installed NT on a raid system before. I feel like I'm missing something very simple.

Any clue?

Oh you found yet another great feature of MS......

As your computer boots for the first time.... you will get the "blue screen" that has your version of "nt4.0" and the service pack loaded... and such

With a raid controller you need to hit "F6" at that screen. It will as you if you would like to load a raid controller diver... Hit "s" to specify and select your drivers...

If you wait for NT4 to ask what scsi controller, it will not work with a raid contoller

Good Luck

Incomplete agreement:

NT4 may have the AMI drivers included. What I have to do (with Compaq and IBM raid controllers):

1. Boot from floppy or CD.
2. Run the AMI RAID configuration utility
3. Create an array (Compaq calls it an "array", for IBM it's a "Drive Pack"). This is where you pick what physical drives are in the array, and what type of RAID you want setup.
4. Create the logical drive(s). (Compaq: "Logical Drive", IBM: "System Drive") Initialize the array/drives.
5. Boot to the OS installation. NT should see the logical drive as a RAID drive, and work fine. If you need to add drivers, this is the spot where you would do it.
