Hey, i need some help installing a new video card.
I want to have a dual-monitor setup and i stripped my old computer for an old ATI Mach 64. I installed it into my system and my computer just refused to boot. The post screen wouldn't even show. Did i do something wrong?
my computer is:
P3 600
Diamond Viper V770 (Nvidia TnT2) AGP Slot
Asus 440BX (P3B-F)
thanks for any comments

I know it isn't much, but here's where I'd start.

There should be a BIOS option for which display card to initialize first. Maybe it is something with that setting, so you can try PCI or AGP first. Of course, if it's not POSTing you don't even get that option, so take out the PCI card, then get it to POST, then change the BIOS setting, turn it off, put the PCI card back in, and try again. I assume that you have both monitors plugged in to both cards so you can see if it is POSTing on either one. Have you tried booting with just the ATI card to verify that both cards work in that system? Also, I have heard stories of ATI and nvidia cards not wanting to play nicely in the same box, and that could maybe be a possible issue on an older motherboard.

Failing that, failure to POST in my experience (and I'm willing to admit this publicly) almost always results from my loosening up a cable somewhere while rooting around in the case or forgetting that I unplugged something.

Hmmmm, ok. I just took out the Ati Card and then got into Bios and changed the settings. Now it will go into windows and load up all fine. But, now i get to another problem. Windows detects the video card and then automatically installs the drivers. And then it asks for a restart. After restart tho, the 2nd video card (the ati) still doesn't work. And under device manager, it says that there is a problem with the card. I tried taking out the card and putting it into other PCI slots and i tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers.
I think ill try just taking out my Nvidia TnT2 AGP card later today to see if just the ATI card works.

O yeah, i almost forgot. I do have another monitor connected. And i an running windows 2000 Pro Version SP3. I don't know if that makes a difference but yeah.
And i am using the standard Nvida Detonator Drivers (28.32) for my Diamond Viper V770. And the standard windows drivers for the Ati Mach 64
