I am looking to upgrade my current mobo (ABit BE7) to a MSI 875 board. In the past when I have upgraded the mobo I have had to completely reinstall XP. Is there a way to set up XP to accept the new mobo without having to reinstall the OS? In ME and 98 you just had to wait for it to find the new drivers for the new mobo and that was it. That doesn't seem to be the case with XP.

Thanks,

Fabio

No replies yet? I'll take a crack at it.

If both boards have the same chipset, you should be able to boot to XP disk, let it load all the way till it starts asking you questions. One of the options will be Repair Existing XP Installation? Choose that option. From there you are on your own. I've always just formatted and reinstalled. But that's the method I've heard in the past.

If you are changing chipsets, I would not expect it to work so well.

I'd backup and format just to save a LOT of headaches down the road. I ended up formatting when I went from an Asus A7N8X Deluxe to an Abit NF7-S (basically the same, but the Abit has a newer chipset revision).
