Installing New Hard Drive?

I just bought a new 160-GB hard drive, which I want to install, set as the master drive, format, and install WinXP, etc on, as it becomes my "working" drive.

However, I have a 40-GB HD installed right now, which is already partitioned into C:, D:, and E: drives (with my current OS and working system installed on the C: partition). This current drive has gigs and gigs of data which I want to transfer over to my new drive once it's up and running, at which point I can re-format the old drive and use it for raw storage, a scratch disk, etc.

So say I install this new drive, set it to master, and install my OS on it to get it up and running. If I hook my 40-GB drive up as the slave (with its three partitions and its own OS), will this not cause problems? Or will the 40-GB OS be ignored and the three partitions just show up renamed as D:, E:, and F: (with my new 160-GB being the new C🙂.

I guess I just want to make sure a new OS installation on a new C: drive will still read my old partitions on the old drive normally so I can transfer files over. I want to be certain my old C:, D: and E: partitions will not cause problems.

Thanks

Just be sure you old drive is disconnected when you install the OS on your new drive, and you won't have any problems. The new drive will be the C: drive, and the drive letters on the old drive will be re-assigned, like you said, such as D: E: and F:
