Installing New Drivers on a GF 2 GTS?

Could someone please advise me as to what is going on in the following scenario:
I have been using the 23.12 Drivers very successfully - BUT - today I SEE that Nvidia has new Certified XP Drivers out now, numbered 28.32, 8.4 MB; so I decided to "upgrade" to them. I downloaded, followed instructions, turned off Virus Detection, Un-Installed my present Drivers (thought I did) - then, opened the new Driver Package I downloaded, it went thru it's INSTALL smoothly, said to re-start etc. I did of course, BUT - when I go to see what drivers are installed they are the SAME as before the 23.12's???
I have now tried it one more time with the very SAMe results.
Can someone tell me why the new Driver Package does not install when it says it did??

Thanks, Michael

It's probably a registry entry left that the uninstaller didn't remove. You may actually be using the newer drivers, but the registry entry that reports your driver number is of the older driver instead of the newer one. Are you having any problems other than the drivers not being reported right (maybe the older ones)? If you aren't having any problems, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks fellas for the input - I did try the Install from Device Manager etc. with the same results - thought it was a GO, because it initially went to VERY BASIC , like 2 BIT Graphics, but when I un-zipped the 28.32 I once again ended up with the 23.12"s.

PLOT Thickens: Went to Visontek and they have them there WITH Instructions for XP Install - which - did NOT call for you to first UNINSTALL present drivers, BUT, use the UPDATE feature instead. Still a WEIRDO - I put the Zip file in a Folder and named it same as the Zip and then I told the XP Uppdater right where to look and it tells me there is nothing there that has zilch to do with my Graphics Card. Back to square one.
Vision Tek almost requires a blood sample in order to post a question to tech support - so here I am again.

Anyone got a clue - I hope? TKS Michael
