If you download a new device driver off the Net, say for your vid card or modem, is it advisable to uninstall the current drivers first, or can you just install over them? TIA.

Most of the time, you can just install over the old ones....If it's going to be a problem, you will usually see it mentioned either in the driver download or on the manufacturer's website that you should uninstall your old ones first.

Thx. I had used the drivers on the CD that came with my Logitech wireless keyboard to install the software (not actually a driver) that shows the NumLock and CapsLock indicators in the system tray (they evidentally forgot to include the LEDs on the keyboard). When I installed the new program off their website, I got 2 instances of the program running at startup, leading me to believe that the old one and new one were trying to run at the same time. I uninstalled what I'd just installed and then reinstalled it and now only one shows up.

The website never mentioned removing the old software first, but I guess they should have, huh?

apparently, yeah.

It's also possible that when you installed again you did so to a different directory...in which cases 2 instances of the same program WOULD exist.

either way, you're approach to solve the problem was the correct one :)
