Installing New CD Drive into OEM System Gone Awry

Hey everyone,

All right, well my sister's CD drive just died on her and she picked up a new Sony 52x CD drive to replace it. Here's where the problem begins, she's over in Montreal, Quebec, and I'm here in Toronto, Ontario, and I was guiding her through the installation over the phone. Everything went well, she unplugged the Power/IDE/Audio cable from the old, dead drive, and reconnected them in the exact same fashion onto the new drive and mounted it into the case.

She then reattaches all the cables, power, monitor, keyboard, mouse etc...

When she goes to hit the power button, nothing happens, zilch, nada, no spinning, no whirring, everything is completely silent. and the PC doesn't boot.

Well I got her to check connections of power/ide and such and made sure the jumper was in the right place (it was), and I even got her to remove the CD drive all together, still no boot.

Anyways, are there any suggestions as to what may have gone wrong, and anything that can be done to fix the problem?

well, here's a few simple things that i would do first

1) unplug the cd-rom from power and ide

2) unplug the computer power cord from the wall for about 5 minutes....this sometimes helps]

3) clear CMOS . easiest way to do this over the phone is to tell them to just take out the battery on the mobo for about 20 minutes. this tends to work wonders

Thanks for the suggestions, I've already tried suggestions 1 and 2 with them, I'll tell her to remove the battery, hopefully this'll work.

According to her, she didn't loosen anything or anything like that, she was only tampering with the CD drive and IDE cable, which supposedly did not snatch on anything during the process.

hmm, I wonder if she's accidently disconnected the power switch connecter wires to the m/board!

Yeah, I was thinking about that too, She said that all the switch were plugged in, it's possible that it may have come loose.
