Installing my first HSF...

I'm getting ready to install my first HSF (a vantec) onto my computer.

Questions are:

1) Should I remove the pads on the top of my AMD processor?

2) Do I need thermal paste?

3) Any other tips that would be helpfull PLEASE TELL ME! hehe.

1) No
2) Yes you should use some thermal compound. If you are not overclocking then the thermal pad that is on some HSFs is sufficient. If you are going to overclock, then removing the thermal pad and applying thermal paste is a good idea.
3) Carefully using a screwdriver has been what has helped me in the past.
