<< thanks for the tips...
performance-wise, are larger partitions better? or smaller? i've heard that you should make a 6gb one for the OS, and the rest for storage.... it's supposed to be best, not sure... something to do with the hd writing to the outside faster? not very sure...you input is good 🙂 >>
Actually, the hard drive reads from the inside of the platters faster, as there is less space to cover. You can do either 1 big partition or 8 small 10 gb partitions and it will perform the exact same. I believe the first things that are install on the disk are the closest to the inside. I do believe the first partitions that are made follow this same rule too. Say Partiton C is your first, D, E, etc being the next. Partition C will be closest to the inside of the disk, therefore you should install your OS there.
It doesn't matter how many times you partition your drive, it will still perform the same, but you will lose a little bit of space the more you partition.
I'm not the expert on these things, this is just from experience and a few things I've read on HDDs. Hopefully someone a little more highly technical can explain it better.
Good luck.
