Installing Linux

Ok, here it goes.

Win98 just didnt want to work for me (long story). So, i decided to reformat and install win95 for a short period of time, then i'd switch to linux. Well, I *had a 15gig hd, but when i installed win95, it went down to 2 gigs. 🙁 So, after trying to split the hd into two to install linux, i got fed up, and formatted again, to try and find my lost 13 gigs. The distribution i was going to use was turbolinux server v.6.0, but now im going to install mandrake 6.2 once i get everything going. now, when i try and install windows again, it says that the c: drive is the wrong media (or something to that extent). I really am dumbfounded, i have no clue what to do. I am thinking of just putting together a whole new computer and give this one away or something. Any help at all would be muy appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

wow, you're messing with archaic software! Windows95 and Mandrake6.2! If you are using 95a then you won't be able to recognize drives larger than 2GB. That is the limit on FAT. However, in 1996, Microsoft came out with Windows 95 osr2(b), which allows for the use of FAT32.

I'd have to see EXACTLY how you partitioned your drive to help.

alright, this is how it is set up.

now, when i start up the comp, i see

"Do you want to reinstall windows 95? y/n?"

i type "y", hit enter, then

"invalid media type..."

so, i install my cd drive, and i run setup.exe, then i get this message,

"please wait while setup initializes..."
....can't create temporary directory...
...If you have HPFS or NTFS installed on your HD you will need to create a MS-DOS boot partition......
