So a while back I downloaded a pirate copy of the sims 2 and played it for a while. But I just bought a legal copy but I cannot get it to install.

I insert disk 1 and it says "Please insert disk 1"
Clicking on the autoplay.exe does the same thing.

Do I need to uninstall the other copy? I don't want to lose my game progress.

I think it because of the installed pirate version. It probably wants the disk for the latest expansion pack you have installed.

Thanks for the reply.
Both had no expansion packs. Do you think I can safely uninstall without deleting the savegames?

Ok
I found out the saves should be in Documents\EA Games\Sims 2

I am going to make a back up copy and try to uninstall. Wish me luck

When I hit uninstall it had a dialog asking if I wanted to delete the save games. Obviously I hit no but I am still glad that I backed them up.

Its installing now so it seems like it is working so far

Actually disabling my image mounting software was one of the first things to try.

In any case all is well. It installed and the save games persisted. Thanks for the help.
