Installing Iomega(plex)12x10x32

Hello everyone, I have a few questions. I just received a new Iomega (plextor) 12x10x32 CDRW from Tigger80 and am about to install it. I am planning to do the firmware upgrade to the 1.08 plextor. My questions are:
1. Should I just take the TDK out and install the iomega without any of the software that came with it or should I install the software first?

2. Should I change the name string before I attempt to flash the new firmware or after?

Any help would be great. If I think of more questions I'll edit this post. Thanks.
