Installing Internal wireless NIC. I need an antenna.

I ordered (and installed) an internal wireless NIC for my HP Pavilion ze4600. Hower - I made the mistake that I needed an antenna installed also (I thought one was already installed.)

The wNIC:

MSI MP54G5 (MS-6833B) IEEE 802.11b/g

I need an Antenna now for this type 3 wNIC. Do I need a specificly made one for my laptop? Or do they make genieric antennas? Thanks!

This looks like it's for a Notebook - the Antenna should be built in.

From the product description, the card is for a laptop and has an internal antenna.

Yes this is for a notebook. It is able to see my AP from about 7 feet away with 35% signal strength. It needs to be connected to an internal antenna that lives inside the laptop case.

I've only seen generic and AFAIK they work on any model. The antenna mounts in the lid behind the screen.

In that particular Pavilion, you will not find a built in antenna. It would have been a lot simpler to get a good PCMCIA NIC and just stick it in the slot. The antenna is built in to the card.

Wierd! I use my EVDO connection card all the time, and when I pack up, I remove it from the slot and slip it into its padded bag.

Hanging off the end? A 3/4 inch protrusion ain't no biggie. I don't think you'll find any suitable antenna in a store - there's no real market for them.

Take off the trim of ur laptop, put the antenna in the behind the LCD in the lid and run the cord down to the minipci card.

I think im going to have to get this one instead. My card is a type 3. How does it latch to something behind inside the screen, behind the LCD?
