Installing help...

I turned my computer on after building it and it turns on, cpu fan spins, hdd makes an internal noise, case fans spin, leds light up ect. My motherboards light is on which makes me feel confindent in saying it isnt dead. BUT my optical drive (dvd) doesnt open when its plugged into the mobo. It WILL open when it isnt plugged in to the mobo. I dont know whats going on... I have it plugged into the primary slot and the jumper is set to master. Another concern is that i dont get anything on screen when i turn it on. I thought that you would need the optical for a bios disk, but he tells me bios is internal on mobo. What should i do? I was thinking that i would open the optical with it not plugged into the mobo, put the asus bios recovery disk and or windows xp in, then connect it to mobo(which automatically makes it close) and see what happens.

Is the optical drive the only drive on the chain? Try CS(cable select). I assume you have the molex connector connected. You make want to try a different molex connector, one from a different chain. There may be too much current draw on that line.
