Installing heatsink - newbie question

Hi all,

Sorry for the newb question but we all had to start somewhere.

I'm in the process of doing my second build, first one was a few years back so things have changed a little.

Kit in question: Asus A8N SLI Premium, A64 3700+, stock heatsink.

I've got my CPU in, both metal clips on, and the plastic retention lever down.

I'd like to know if I need to get the plastic clip on the retention lever *under* the plastic notch on the mobo or whether it just sits on top.

The heatsink is really secure and the lever doesn't feel like its going to pop up all on its own but I watched the video on the AMD site and the clip is slightly different and fits under the plastic notch. This has started me doubting myself.

Any help really appreciated.

Okay, so you'll need to find the side of the HSF that has the tab with the hole in the middle and make sure that fits on the CPU after the other side of the HSF is down. What you'll end up with is the HSF secured on one side (the side opposite the tab) and not secured on the other. Now, take a screwdriver and firmly but carefuly push the tab down and over the protrusion on the motherboard's retention bracket. It should fit perfectly into the hole in the tab. Voila! You now have a secured HSF for your Athlon processor. Let us know how it goes!

I think he has the clips on already and was just wondering about the cam lever as in the picture - these particular models don't have a bottom part that holds it in place so it just kinda sits there.

The clip is in the same position but the lever doesn't have the hook like in that picture.

I'm 99.9% sure I've got it right its just when I saw it hook under in the AMD video it got me worrying.

That picture helps massively in that is shows me there is no force holding the lever in place.

Thanks 🙂
