Doing a new build-

I've got an Antec P160 Case which has a front control panel that contains:
Power and Resent buttons, 2 USB2.0 ports, 1 IEEE1394 Port, Audio In/Out Jacks and a temp display

Mobo is a Chaintech CT-9CJS which has a CBox Front Panel which includes:
2 USB ports
Earphone phone jack
MIC - in phone jack
IEEE-1394 port
System Monitoring Display
IR (Infrared)
6 in 1 Card Reader
WOL Connector

My problem is the Mobo only has enough conectors for it's CBox Front Panel. (USB, etc)
Is there anyway I can incorporate both front panels onto that Mobo
with additional connectors besides what is offered on the Mobo?

Or will some functions of either front panel need to be disabled?

Or get a new motherboard that has enough USB and firewire headers to handle the load. Something tells me the former poster's method MIGHT be a bit cheaper. ;)

It would help though if you told us what connectors are coming off the CBox and the Case.

You won't be able to hook up the audio portions for both though - It's one or the other.

The ports there were mentioned, I think. I had to read it 4 or 5 times to figure it out though:

Yeah, all I got outta that for sure was this:

Power and Reset buttons
4 USB ports
2 IEEE1394 Port
Audio In/Out Jacks x 2
IR (Infrared)
WOL Connector

The question is, do these need hookups, and if so, what kind?

System Monitoring Display
6 in 1 Card Reader
and a temp display

I'd guess the only one that actually needs a plug would be the 6-in-1 card reader, but maybe that piggybacks off the USB ports going to the Cbox. It's hard to tell from the way she described.

But either way, 1 set of audio jacks is gonna be useless, and you're gonna need at LEAST 4 USB headers and 2 1394 headers on the mobo.

And with most soundcards, utilizing front-panel audio connectors is a lost cause, so scratch that off.

I think she just needs connectors for: 2 USB2.0 ports, 1 IEEE1394 Port, Audio In/Out Jacks (she didn't mention audio on the cbox, just mic...). And I'm pretty sure some add in PCI cards have connectors for these. But I've never cared enough to find out for sure. :p

Well, it depends on how they're rigged up. Most cases I've worked with required one set of headers per 2 USB ports. But we may be defining this differently. There are technically two ports for every full set of headers on the mobo.

It also looks like the case and the CBox have a 1394, so she'll need two headers for that. Possibly. Again, I'd have to see the wires to be sure.

And read again: The CBox has: "Earphone phone jack, MIC - in phone jack" - Same as the case.

Double :p ;)

thanks guys....

Looks like I'm stuck using one or the other, because the Mobo has only enough
connectors for one Front Panel
so I guess I'll go with the one that goes with the Mobo.

that kinda sucks.

If anybody knows of an add on card like that, pass it along
I'd be really grateful, thanks.

Agreed. She mentioned the CBox comes with the motherboard, so I'm basing my guesses off of that face, instead of doing the smart thing and looking up the motherboard to be sure. But I'm guessing there are built in USB ports on the motherboard, and one set of headers (for 2 ports). The CBox eats up that header.

It also looks like the case and the CBox have a 1394, so she'll need two headers for that. Possibly. Again, I'd have to see the wires to be sure.

The CBox has 1394, so she probably has a header for 1 1394 port on the motherboard. So one more header would be needed for the case's front ports.

And read again: The CBox has: "Earphone phone jack, MIC - in phone jack" - Same as the case.

I thought I read that, but I couldn't find it when I went back to make sure. I need sleep. :p

Definitely. :D

Spend some time in a local parts shop (fry's, bb, whatever). There's probably a card that offers headers for front ports. I'm just not bored enough to spend the time to find one. :p

Yep. You need 2 more USB ports (1 9-pin mobo header) and 1 more 1394 port.

And ACK. ACK. ACK. Intel? What did you do to deserve that? ;)
