Installing from the net

Man, what's with these install the program from the net deals going on. Like for Netscape 6, and now for Quake 3 Fortress now that I'm installing that. Why must they make you DL a 60k file just to run it and have it DL all these other files from the net? What ever happened to just letting us DL one executable and be done with it, avoids a lot of hassle. This annoy anyone else?

It's ridiculous.

The net is getting more and more &quot;bandwidth elitist&quot;. I still have many friends who use a 56k modem, many of which can't get over 28.8 speeds...and they're supposed to download 20 mb of info from the net over the phone lines!!??

There still ought to be a way to 'grab' the subsequent files and save them (before installing them). I will also agree though, it's a pain in the arse!

i agree, total pain... just send me a CD. this delivery approach is short sighted and won't last long I think.
