Installing ecobee smart premium thermostats

Hello,

We've just moved into a brand new duplex and want to switch out the pre-existing thermostats with these smart thermostat's. I need some guidance as to if and how it is possible to get this done. There are two thermostats (one and each floor) that control the radiant in-floor heating on that floor and one thermostat that strictly controls the fans and the AC for the entire unit. We purchased two ecobee thermostats and am wondering which thermostats should we replace out of the three? How does it work if we replaced just the two heat thermostats, would the ecobee be able to control the AC and Fan as well? Thank you!

Short answer - the thermostats only control the units they are physically connected to, so there is no way for a new Ecobee in one location to control a Honywell in another location.
That being said, I think Ecobee thermostats are awesome. I think you would get more utility out of replacing the AC thermostat than the radiant heat ones. And as long as your thermostats use color-coded thermostat wiring (They look quite new, so I'm sure this is the case), the Ecobees will be compatible. If you haven't already, visit the Ecobee website and click on Support/Thermostat compatibility to double check.

Say I then swapped out the AC and Fan with an ecobee and swapped out the first floors radiant heating thermostat with the other ecobee. Do they communicate with each other? Say it was getting too hot, would the AC turn on and the heating turn off? I'm not sure if I'm making sense here.

No, that is not how this works. Each one will control only its own unit. unless there is some internet app thing that can do this, but I don't believe the app will do this

The heat thermostats, if it is electric in- floor, could be line voltage, which will not work with the ecobee, and are much more dangerous due to the available fault current / voltage.
I would recommend, with the questions you are asking, that you hire a professional to do this.

I don't see why you would want a programable stat with radiant heat. The systems are slow to respond to change.
