I saw something VERY similar happen to a friend at a LAN Party when trying to install Serious Sam 2. It would reach the same percentage completion and then fail. In that case, we were able to resolve the problem by disabling all of anti-virus/anti-spyware/tray programs that were pre-installed by Dell. Once we shut all of the background crap down, it installed without a hitch.

Not saying it'll work in your situation, but it's certainly worth a try. Try to disable everything you can and give it a shot.

Okkkk... A tech had me install Windows Installer 3.1 and now it works. I am confused, but at least it works now....

Wow...ummmm...that's weird to say the least. Who knew an older Windows installer could cause hardware "bugcheck" crashes? Or maybe I've been under a rock lately. ;)

OK...well do let us know if any further issues arise. It could be something really really weird like the new Windows installer doesn't use as much memory or the same addresses as to set off your BSOD? Who knows... Just curious which 'tech' do you mean? Support for Dungeon Seige?

Yeah, dungeon seige 2. However, it's a microsoft game, so it was a microsoft support person. Another interesting issue: the game hangs for a few seconds at a time, totaly hung, can't do anything, then reverts to normal and the whole thing goes fine.

I suspect further problems...

Do you have dual core? Maybe dual core and Dungeon Siege don't play nicely (usually limiting it to first core helps; having a non SMP-aware app on both cores does nothing in the first place anyway).

Nope, single core here....
