Hey there..

I've had this problem ever since I installed DivX 5.0 codec on my PC.

I upgraded my Divx 4.12 codec to 5.0 (on Win2k OS) and suddenly I had no sound codec (MP3) installed so I was unable to convert DVD -> DivX with MP3 sound. Only uncompressed sound which takes up quite alot of space (10x MP3).

I then removed 5.0 and installed 4.12 again and then I had MP3 sound once more. I though my problems was over....

I installed WinXP and Codec 4.12 and now I do have MP3 sound, but only a max quality of 56kbit / 22khz. <- I believe this is a M$ issue since they want to promote WMA ?!?

I reinstalled my Win2K on my second HD with 4.12 and now I don't have sound there either.

Can anybody please help me out here ???

I have to latest drivers for my sound card (SB Audigy Player), WinAMP 2.78 works perfectly and so do games....

Following programs are used for converting..

FlaskMPEG, XMPEG, TMEGEnc, Virtual Dub, Gknot DivX Pack and DVD2VCD pack (Super-VCD)

This last one once produced perfect quality video and sound on Super-VCDs but now the sound is out on sync.

All this happend more or less when I upgraded my system from a P3-933 to a P4-1800@2400/533.

Hope this isn't a i love you thing )

Regards

Fisrt off, I trust you're using Lame 3.91 if you're using Vdub and Gknot. If you're using the Radium codec, I can't help ya. It's buggy in my opinion.

Secondly, which program are you using to encode? (you put down Xmpeg/Flask and Vdub -> Gknot) I would stick to Gknot for the best results.

Actually I'm kinda begining to use other software than FlaskMPEG because that had it all. I didn't have to do anything than select the DeCCS'ed vob file and then Go!. A couple of hours later is was done with sound and all.

I'm still trying to figure out how to use Gknot and the others eventhough dvd2svcd is rather easy to use.

Have you tried divx 3.11a codec? I never did like the new ones, they always crashed by comp when playing movies or made it restart hehe.

When I convert uncompressed sound to mp3, I simply load the video file in VirtualDub, have video as direct stream copy, and pick mp3 audio compression.

Not to get into a flame war which will usually develop when saying bad about divx 3.11, but divx 5 is stable as a rock when used with GKnot using doom9's guides.

After you use it once or twice, you'll just remember the correct settings and be able to expierement even more.

Hmmm I've just installed Gknot on my system. Don't what it did, but now I have all the options I wanted. MP3 sound all the way up to 320kbit/44khz.

Thanx for all your help guys.

Btw franguinho - Installing DivX 5.0.1 didn't help the problem either though.
