installing directx9 with non-compliant cards

is tehre any point? i have w2k sp4 with old school ATI rageII on my dads rig...would there be any advantege whatsoever in isntalling dx9? thx
 
some games require dx9 to be installed, even if they work perfectly fine with lower non dx9 cards...thats the only reason. Only game like that I can think of off hand is star wars galaxies.
