Help installing DirectX 8.1 + Video nVidia Riva TnT II Vanta®, 2x AGP, 8 MB SDRAM.

Hi, Can anyone help me ?
I'm new to this Newsgroup so please be gentle with me !

I've tried contacting NVIDIA and this is as far as I've got so far.

My PC has Windows 98, and...
Originally Microsoft's - DirectX - version 6.1a -

I installed the software - Ulead® COOL 3DT Production Studio -
But this would not load when clicking its icon...

* An error message said...
missing - D3D8.dll
So I copied a version of that file into my - Windows\System - folder
[from another PC that has Windows Home ME]

* Then, error message said...
' missing - D3D8THK.dll '
[So I copied that also.]

* Then, error message said...
' D3D8THK.dll - is linked to missing - GDi32.dll:DdEntry1 '

[However:- file - GDi32.dll - is present in the Windows\System - folder.]

Also, I get error message...
This Program requires DirectX version 8.1 or later...
So I downloaded from the MS website - DirectX 8.1Redist.exe
And installed this onto my system.

But I still get the same error messages !

Upon running the dxdiag tests....
* Direct Draw test results = All successful.
* Direct3D test results = [first part of test (for DirectX 7) is ok,
but on the last part of this test, (for DirectX 8) I get the message]...
** ' Failure at step 1 [loading Direct 3D DLL): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure) '
It also says...
* file nvdisp.drv - is not digitally signed, and not tested by MS, you may be able to get a signed driver from the manufacturer of your hardware device.

I have also obtained and installed the correct driver for my graphics card...
The - NVIDIA Detonator - 44.03 - from
ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/44.03/44.03_win9x_international.exe

but still gets all of these errors.

When looking in - dxdiag - DirectX Files -
of the above 3 files, I can see only - d3d8.dll -
Although all 3 are present in - Window\System - folder

So can anyone help please

I would reinstall the latest version of Direct X, I think it's version 9.0a here

Then I would uninstall and reinstall your COOL 3dt program.

It's normally not recommended to copy over files like that from another computer. I would only do that only for user-installed programs such as your COOL 3dt program, but Windows files and Direct X files is pretty specific to the computer it's installed in.

Hi again, I forgot to say...

Re DirectX V9.....

I've read allot of bad comments about this,
so I decided to play safe and install 8.1,
as Cool will work with this version, and above.

You need to install either DX8.1 (the correct version, not that redist.exe version) or DX9a, and possibly reinstall the nVidia drivers.

Afterwards, uninstall and delete all folders pertaining to "COOL 3DT", then reinstall.
