I am about to jump sign up... I am thinking about installing Basic Local cable for $14.75 a month, installation fee for $36.76. Then run to CC and get one of those self installation kit w/ the free modem (better than shelling another $3/mo to ComCast for one).

The sell-rep also mentioned I can get Showtime and stuff for $23.95 a month (I think, if I heard it right, or 29.95?), with that, the installation fee goes down to $9.95.

What do you guys think? Is there a better way to do this?

If I get self installation kit there is no installation fee, but I will still need to get somebody to come and wire my room. I think w/ basic cable thats $36.76 and if I go with only cable internet directly from comcast it's free.

For just the cable modem all you do is plug it in and register it with Comcast and you should be fine, Comcast would'nt wire the rest of your room anyway so that's your responsibility anyway. I've always had them register the modem since it was usually simpler that way, but I have done it myself and it's not too hard as long as you have the registration server name and your account information.
