Installing ClarkConnect: eth0 receives no IP-address but does with FreeSCO.

Gateway specs: P166, 32 MB RAM, 1 GB HD, 1 RealTek 8139 chipset-based NIC, one Intel-based NIC.

Connection: cable (no password, username required), dynamic IP-address.

Problem: after successfully installing ClarkConnect 0.8.1 and rebooting the system, eth0 (the RealTek-based NIC), does not receive an IP-address.

Right now I'm running FreeSCO on the gateway, from a floppy. This was also the previous configuration (before installing CC), which worked flawlessly.
The driver CC uses for the RT-based NIC (eth0) is 8139too.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

[edit]: maybe a related thing, but typing 'ls' doesn't do anything. This makes the system almost useless.

You would be better off sticking to Freesco.

ps. you gateway is virtually identical to mine. except:48mg ram and 3gig hdd.

Yeah, I'll stick with FreeSCO for now.

Only thing I would like to know is how you can open and close ports in the firewall. Anyone knows?

It can be, but excitement usually means something is broke... Broke = bad 😛

LOL 😀

Anyway, to get back to topic (kinda): do you've any firewall running?

Let me guess: you're using a *BSD box as gateway, right? 🙂

Of course. I am a huge OpenBSD fan, and would use nothing less for my home network. Right now I use IPFilter for my firewall, but I imagine I will switch to PacketFilter in late Nov. early Dec. when OpenBSD 3.0 is released. 🙂
I have considered getting an older box to isntall linux on just for fun, but I dont have the money or time to work on it again.

Opening ports in freesco is a snap. I just read the manual and/or check out the forum at freesco when i have any questions.

Under advanced options you can open specific ports.

Do you mean port forwarding?
