So I'm sure everyone is sick of helping out with deck installs, but I just have a quick question.

I want to put the Sony GigaPanel into my gf's 2001 chev malibu, and I have the wiring kit and antenna booster. The guy at best buy (though I just called to check prices on the kit, I try to ignore everything else they say) reminded me that there's some sort of wire harness for around a hundred bucks to make sure the door dings continue to go through the car speakers, and was something I need for sure. Circuit City kindly told me that there is such a thing, but you can ignore it and you just won't get the dings anymore, if you get some sort of extra wire and it's a quick fix. Can anyone shed some light on this for me please? Need it? Forget it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Door dings don't go to the car stereo.. You ever notice that your stereo isn't on when you open the door?

See? Nothing but antenna, ground, dimming, trigger, and then the speakers.

You may need an aftermarket adapter though if the harness uses proprietary connectors, which I don't think the Malibu does unless it's 04+. I can't really tell you that. Companies like scosche makes them. But since I can't find one anywhere I doubt you need one.

So I say just wire it up and you should be good to go.

01 Malibu MIGHT have the door dinger going through the stereo, but they are just annoying anyways. Dash pops right off, (3) 7 mill screws hold the radio in place, you are going to have to cut or knock out the plastic piece behind the radio. 15 minute install to a pro, might take a novice a half hour.

You guys are a life saver. The joker at BB tried to tell me if I didn't get the extra 100+ dollar harness the airbags wouldn't work, which I smelled as crap but didn't want to gamble on in case that mofo was actually telling me the truth.

I'll try it this weekend, and hopefully will have no problems. Thanks for the help.

Oh yeah, and that website looks like it has some great stuff on it. I'll have to bkmark it. Thanks again
