installing carpeting

Anyone installed carpeting?
Question: on all the guides I've been reading, they say to install the tack strips around the perimeter of the room... Does this include across doorways? I wouldn't think so, but maybe the molding that goes on the edge of the carpet covers the tacks. Anyone know this for sure?

Thanks.

Uh maybe you should try a home improvement forum

I know the transitions in our house had the tack strip as a part of it already, so you shouldn't have to lay a tack strip in front of your transition piece

Edit. I am talking about the metal transition piece that goes from carpet to linoleum(sp??) the other transition piece that goes to the hardwood, did have a tackstrip since the carpet was butted up to it.

my father used to work for a carpet company...
That is correct, you do place tack strip on both sides of the doorway (1 for each opposing carpet.) The aluminum strip is merely to cover the small gap/edge which appears where the two carpets meet it does nothing to hold the edges together.
Also dont forget to leave some space (about 1/4 inch) between the wall and the tack strip to tuck the carpet edge into, easily accomplished with a straight screwdriver.

Yeah, I step on the tack strip when I'm walking through the door to my bedroom all the time.

Yep, I knew that one. 2/3 of the thickness of the carpeting or 3/8 of an inch, depending on the source. Either way, it's about the same.
