Installing car audio speakers

Hey guys-

I'm giving a shot at installing new speakers into my car (1997 Subaru outback). The old speakers were dying, so I'm replacing them with some run-of-the-mill Sony's (6.5" Explod -- w1621 or something like that). I'm not doing anything special, but this is the first time I've done a car audio installation. I've taken the panels and grills off and removed the speakers; right now, there is what looks like a molex connector connected to the speakers (the pos & neg terminals from the speakers hook up to it). With the Sony's it doesn't look like this setup will work (the terminals on the Sony speakers are a different size), so I'm thinking about cutting the wires before the connector and connecting the speaker wires (provided by sony) to that.

Anyone have any clue wtf I'm talking about? Maybe tell me if I'm about to screw something up bigtime? Seems pretty simple; cut the connector and connect the other wires to it -- pos to pos, neg to neg.

Just wanna make sure I don't fsck up my first car audio installation.

Nope, that should work. You may be able to find adapters to plug into the factory connection if you don't want to cut and solder.

adapters, or the speaker connectors will have little holes in them so you an just wrap the wire through the whole, maybe use a little electrical tape it will be fine

I can show you how to take it out really fast.

That will work, just cut the wires and connect them. Hell, it doesnt even have to be pos to pos and neg to neg, just make sure however you wire the first one you wire ALL speakers like that or you'll have phasing issues.
