Installing C7 DDR3 1600 Ram with C9 DDR3 1600 Ram

Hi Everyone,

I Currently have Corsairs XMS3 DDR3 1600 C7 in my rig and I was wondering if there would be an issues if I installed Corsairs XMS3 DDR3 1600 C9 in my PC?

I orignally had 4 sticks x 4GB of the Corsairs CAS7 but I gave two to my brother for his build because at the time I only needed 4GB for gaming.

With current prices of DDR3 ram at low prices, I was thinking about picking up these babies and making my rig back to 8GB of DDR3 Ram so I can do some video editing and decoding, but they are CAS9 and I was wondering if I would experience an issues if I do install them? Thank-you in Advance! 😀

you won't neccessarily have issues, but I believe that the mobo will run them all at the c9 speeds unless you tweak them in the bios. Also the C9 stick will most likely not run at c7 like the others; unless possibly at stock timings.

I just did exactly this - added 4gb of c9 to my comp. It was stable for a while but it seems to BSOD randomly now and it only recognizes or even boots very well if I go at 1333 timings and auto all the other settings.

I cannot seem to get it to run even at 99924 with 1.65 and 1600. I can only do auto 1.5 and 1333

thoughts? anyone done better / have any tips / ideas?

gigabyte ga-p55a-ud3 board. latest bios F11 I think.

I am just having tons of trouble doing this so I wouldnt recommend it. I have not been stable once - I get x124 stop errors constantly and I cant find timings that will consitantly work. Some are "more stable" i.e. I get an hour or 2 of time before it locks up but some it reboots right after I login.

I have had a nightmare with this proposition and I'm about to try and just buy some new ram and throw this crap away because I have grown so frustrated by it.

Anyone have any other last minute ideas before I give up?

you cannot and should not mix memory modules......they are made with different ICs, and I promise you will have instability.............

unfortunately now it happens with either set in for me lol. I cant seem to go back to just one set of 4gb - going to have to call corsair tomorrow I think.
