Any steps I need to take? Going to keep my 8800GTS in my system for Physics card, but install and run my 5850 when it arrives tomorrow.

Is just runningDriver Sweeper 2.1.0 software to wipe the Nvidia drivers, shut down, install new 5850, reboot and install 9.12 Catalysts..........basically that's it?

You'll need to use an older nV driver if you want to keep both cards in the system. nVidia blocked it using 186 and newer drivers. I used to do the same but found it wasn't worth the hassle to have the PhysX card.

format and do a clean windows install if you can. (its always good when changing major hardware)
otherwise, uninstall drivers the conventional way first through the control panel, and then sweep, restart and install.

you don't need to reformat. Uninstall the old drivers with the nvidia uninstall thing, reboot in safe mode and use a driver cleaner to clean the rest of the crap out. Reboot and install the catalysts. You will be fine.

Thanks. I also see no need to format, just for installing a video card.

Do I need to install an earlier version of nvidia driver prior to 186 AND the Physx drivers? Or just install the Physx driver?

I've never had to reformat when going from one to another either. Whats with all these posts lately saying 'reformat'? Just completely uninstall the old drivers and you should be fine.

-Its a Pavlovian response to using XP for 7 years. You farted in the wrong direction and the damn thing would blue screen.

-Download and install driver sweeper.
-Download and install CCleaner.
-uninstall nVidia drivers.
-Shut down and remove nVidia card and install the ATI card.
-Power on the machine and start in safe mode, use driver sweeper then CCleaner (Registry cleaner).
-Start in normal Windows mode and install your Catalyst drivers.
