Installing apps with a jailbroken Iphone

I am thinking about jailbreaking my iphone. I found just about all the answers I am looking for except one: How are unsigned apps installed onto the phone? Is itunes used or some other program?
 
When you jailbreak your phone it'll install an app called cydia. Cydia is pretty much an app store for unofficial apps, so almost all of the unofficial apps are found and installed through there just like the app store.
