I recently purchaced this to replace my ailing NF7 fan.

I'm just wondering what sort of preperation I need to do. Once I get the old cooler off, is there a thermal paste I need to clean off the northbridge before following the instructions for the ZM-NB47J?

If so, how do I go about doing this? will removing "most" of it with, say, a credit card edge be enough? Or, will I need to use some sort of alchohol?

Cliff Notes: Should I clean the old paste off my NB before installing the ZM-NB47J?

Yes, clean off the old stuff, denatured quality(not rubbing type) alcohol will work.

You sure I need denatured alcohol for this job? it's only a NB chipset, not a processor...And, I've got rubbing alcohol here, I'd have to buy denatured...

Use isopropyl rubbing alcohol-the 99% pure stuff.
I used some arctic silver when I replaced the fan/heatsink on my A7V board, same zalman type. A big improvement in noise(the fan was failing), and runs fine without fan.

Hmm, highest grade I can find is 91% Isopropyl @ Walgreens for a couple bucks...would that be of enough quality?

Anything higher quality(like denatured) I can only find for $40/gal...really too much...

Ok, googled for a bit, and, it seems I can get 99% isopropyl alcohol @ Walgreens, just that I have to ask the pharmacist for it, and it's not advertised...

Thanks for the help!

OK...I'm having trouble finding 99% pure, still...

I checked at walgreens/a grocery store...Picked up some 91%, It was only $1.50, so I picked up a bottle...

I got a strange look from the pharmacist@Walgreens when I asked about 99% isopropyl...Ah, well...

Anyway, I think I'm just going to have to go ahead with the 91%. Any suggestions?

Edit:powering down for some fun...hope 91% works!
