#1 tip: note the step cut into one end of the base. It must be matched to the solid plastic end of the CPU socket, whether convenient or not.

#2: assuming the heatsink has a clip: when fastening down the clip, don't touch the heatsink, so you don't apply leverage to it and crack the CPU core.

Place cardboard or something over the mobo, where you'll be pushing the clip down. It WILL take a lot of force to get the clip on....a little slip and you're shopping for a new board. And don't put the heatskink on backwards, like people seem to do with distrubing frequency.

once you have set the heatsink, try not to move it around and if you absolutely have to apply pressure sparingly to the top of it evenly, not on one corner or side as this will increase the chances of a cracked core.

dont be afraid to muscle on the heatsink clip (if it has a clip), it can be tough.
if you use a screwdriver or something, make sure are not in the path of a cap, you dont wanna end up taking one out
thin layer of thermal grease, not a big blob approach (unless its a thermal pad, then it doesnt really matter )
it may be easier to install before putting the mobo in the case
