Installing AMD Catalyst GPU drivers on Windows Server?

I plugged an HD 7750 into my server box running Win2k8 R2 yesterday, and I've been spending all day trying to get the drivers installed:

  1. 13.9 is a lost cause. The installer aborts partway through with an error.
  2. 13.4 installed fine, but atieclxx.exe won't load.
  3. 13.1 installed fine and seems to function fine, but I can't start Catalyst Control Center (essentially, nothing happens when I try to start CCC). Additionally, GPU-Z tells me "ATI OpenCL driver bug detected, skipping OpenCL detection. Uninstall the AMD Stream SDK / OpenCL driver to re-enable this functionality." and then crashes.
Before I go any further back in time, I figure I should see if anyone has any advice...

I had to do this on one of my computers maybe 6 months ago. Officially AMD catalyst does not support server OS. However, since regular windows and server versions share so much code the drivers will work after some tinkering. There are guides on the web if you google, it is possible, but it requires tinkering, multiple reboots, and in general is a huge pain in the ass. I say don't do it, more trouble than it's worth.
