Installing a SBLive! Platinum on ASUS P4P800 Deluxe ?

Hi there,

I'm putting my old SBLive! Platinum (with LiveDrive) into this new computer - I really dislike the on-board sound.

Now, I need to figure out two things.

1. Do I need to disable the on-board sound in the BIOS?

2. Do I need to uninstall the SoundMAX drivers in Windows, first?

What would the most indicated procedure be?

You should just be able to disable the onboard sound in bios without removing the drivers. You may find that it isn't easy to get that SBLive card to work, it can be done but unless you are very lucky it will be a pain! I am using the same motherboard and had a Santa Cruz sound card for a while, I needed the extra pci slot so I took it out and am using the onboard sound, I think it's excellent. I'm using a set of Monsoon MM2000 speakers and they sound fantastick in games, music, and movies with the onboard sound.

Yes to both questions. After doing so, then install your sound card and then install the latest Creative drivers.

i've only seen audigy's produce problems with onboard sound enabled.

i run both my SB live 5.1 and the onboard sound. it really doesn't matter. you can select the output device according to your needs or just leave it on soundblaster all the time.
