Installing a SATA drive

How do I add a SATA drive to a computer that has an IDE drive? I also need to install the SATA driver (which I have). Right now the SATA hard drive is not being detected.

is it not being detected by the motherboard or in windows.
If it is not being seen by windows, you would have to format it.
If it is not being seen by the motherboard, the sata controller may not be enabled, or you may need to install the sata drivers for a mass storage controller if that shows up in device manager with a yellow ?
also could be you need to force set the drive to 150 sata mode, i have seen some via chipsets not like some sata2/300 drives but work fine when set to sata150 mode

Does your mobo have a SATA port? If so, is it enabled? If not - you need to add a SATA card to host the drive.
